It’s a flower that I love since my childhood, one of my favorite scents, and one of the reasons for my love for purple.
When to see the lavender fields?
To see the lavender fields: Depending on the weather in particular, the flowering may vary, depending on the place you are to see it also. In the PACA region, it takes place first in the "Alpes de Haute-Provence", then in the Vaucluse and Luberon region.
The ideal time to see them is in between the 15 of June and July (1 month). But to be really sure to see them if your trip is mainly motivated by the lavender fields, I will advise you to come to Provence the last week of June and the first week of July.
It's quite clear, but I prefer to point it out anyway, lavender fields are fields. Like a wheat or sunflower field, lavender fields simply line the roads. Some fields are very close to a farm where you can stop in, if you want to buy some.
and think about coming on vacation during this lavander period, by choosing your cottage
1. Sénanque Abbey (Luberon)
Certainly my favorite place to admire lavender. The abbey is surrounded by lavender fields, it is the monks themselves who harvest it and then resell it and provide for the needs of the abbey. The visit of the Abbey and the village of Gordes is also really worth it. As the abbey is still in operation, you must come with your shoulders and knees covered.
2. Saint-Remy de Provence (Alpilles's Natural Park)
It is in the garden of Saint-Paul de Mausole monastery that you can admire a pretty lavender field. The monastery is known to have hosted Van Gogh for many months. It was in Saint-Remy de Provence that he painted these most beautiful works. Saint-Remy de Provence is also known for the Gallo-Roman ruins of the town of Glanum. If you pass in the area, I also advise you to take a walk in the pretty village of Baux-de-Provence.
3. The Valensole plateau (Verdon regional park)
This is usually the place that comes up first when you talk about lavender fields. Coming from Manosque on the D6 road which joins the village of Valensole, lavender fields and farms line all the roads. I myself had stopped at Angelvin Farm, but there are several on the road.
4. The Sault plateau (Vaucluse)
As with the Valensole plateau, it is difficult to miss lavender on the Sault plateau and especially on the road to Mont Ventoux (D164). You will find many lavender fields there, but also farms where you can attend the distillation such as La ferme aux Lavandes and Aroma plants. Please note that distillation is generally carried out at specific times of the year. I advise you to call or send a message on social media beforehand so that you don't come for nothing.
